Hub Kings Cross is part of the global network of Hub spaces, designed to give social entrepreneurs and innovators a place to work, meet, connect and be inspired.
Conceived as a 'Live Make' during the opening weeks of Hub King's Cross, the table was measured, cut, made and finished in situ.
Inspired by the pallet as a ubiquitous object. How can it be re-imagined? Can we change its use while keeping its design principles, while also illuminating its aesthetic value?
The open studio process allowed people who would one day use the table to observe it taking shape and to get involved with the make: a way to share skills and invest ownership in a static object.
This transparent process is part of the opening up of how and why, and with what resources, things are made. TILT believe this approach is a necessary step change in design thinking, allowing all of us, designers and non-designers alike, to be able to understand, claim ownership and implement ways to make better.
